Selling Your Car

Selling your car shouldn’t be complicated. At Car Buying Team, we’ve built a simple, transparent and reliable process that puts you first. Our experienced team will assess your vehicle carefully and offer a competitive valuation you can trust — giving you confidence and peace of mind every step of the way.

It’s increasingly common for cars in the UK to be bought on finance, so having outstanding payments is nothing unusual.

We make selling a financed car straightforward. Simply provide us with a current settlement letter from your finance provider. We will pay the finance company directly to clear the balance in full before taking the vehicle. If your car is worth more than the remaining finance, the difference is transferred to your bank instantly.

If the finance amount exceeds the car’s value, any shortfall will need to be settled before we can complete the transaction.

Unlike some companies that take days to finalise payments, we settle finance immediately to give you a smooth, worry‑free experience.

Some vehicles spend time off the road — whether for storage, seasonal use, or as part of a collection. Whatever the reason, we’re happy to help.

There’s no need to move or drive the car. We come to you for the inspection, and our trade plates allow us to legally and fully‑insured test drive the car if required. Once a price is agreed, the vehicle can be taken away straight after payment.

No insurance? No problem.

Because we visit your location for inspection, your vehicle doesn’t need to be insured or driven beforehand. Our Motor Trade Policy covers us to drive the car for assessment purposes. After agreeing on a price, we complete payment and drive the vehicle away immediately.

While we generally prefer vehicles with at least three months of MOT remaining, we review each car individually. If your vehicle doesn’t have a valid MOT, we are still happy to purchase it — though the valuation will reflect this.

To keep the process smooth and efficient, please have the following items ready where possible:

  • V5C Logbook: If you don’t have it, we may still be able to review the vehicle using available service records, receipts or digital history — some of which we can access ourselves if required.
  • ID: Any valid identification helps us confirm ownership and complete the necessary paperwork.
  • Service History: Full or partial service records help us value the vehicle accurately. Physical or digital records are fine, and we may be able to retrieve some information on your behalf.
  • MOT Information: If the MOT certificate is missing, we can often check historic MOT data online using the registration number.
  • Finance Settlement: If applicable, please provide a recent settlement letter from your finance company. This contains the balance, payment details and validity date — all required for us to settle the finance for you.
  • Keys: If you have a spare key, please include it. Vehicles with only one working key may be valued slightly lower.
